The San Diego Padres need to sign or trade for an outfielder to replace Jurickson Profar in left field. Last season, Profar was spectacular in a breakout year. He slashed .280/.459/.839 with 24 home runs and 85 RBIs.
Replacing that production will be tough, but the most obvious solution is staring the Padres in the face. Just re-sign Profar.
That’s exactly what R.J. Anderson of CBS Sports expects the Padres to do. Anderson recently predicted Profar to re-sign with San Diego this winter. Jon Heyman of the New York Post projects Profar to sign for $26 million over two years.

“Profar is a difficult player to evaluate: all the underlying measures indicated that last season contained real gains. At the same time, teams are right to be skeptical about age-31 breakout efforts,” Anderson wrote. “For those reasons, Profar’s top outcome always seemed to be returning to the Padres. Who knows, maybe one of the teams who came up short on Teoscar Hernández — be it the (Boston) Red Sox, (New York) Mets, whoever — decides to chance it with Profar in case he can put up another year like last.”
Profar was excellent last year, but he’s never played that well in his entire career. For that reason, he likely won’t sign for more than $20 million a year, at the highest.
With a price tag like that and production like he had in 2024, it should be a no-brainer for the Padres to bring him back for the next two or three years to pair alongside Fernando Tatis Jr.
