The hunt for another football mind to bear the burden of guiding the New York Jets into greener pastures continues. New York is officially scheduled to interview Ron Rivera for the head coaching vacancy, per Tom Pelissero. “The #Jets are scheduled to interview Ron Rivera for their head coaching job this week, per sources. In 13 seasons with Carolina and Washington, Rivera made the playoffs five times, including an appearance in Super Bowl 50. The first of many HC interviews to come in NYJ’s search,” Pelissero said on X. The #Jets are scheduled to interview Ron Rivera for their head coaching job this week, per sources. During his four seasons, he posted a 26-40-1 record and led the team to an NFC East title in 2020, despite finishing with a 7-9 record. Washington made one playoff appearance under his leadership, falling in the wild-card round. Rivera was fired by the Washington Commanders last January after leading the club to a 4-13 record in 2023. With nine more seasons under his belt as the head coach of the Carolina Panthers previous to that, he’s recorded a 102-103-2 overall record. Former Jets head coach Rex Ryan said on ESPN NY Radio Monday morning that he also expects to be in line for an interview. “I believe I will,” Ryan said in regards to a potential interview for a reunion. “But no, I have not had any conversations with anybody within the organization, but I believe I will. Look, they’re not gonna bring anybody in I’m sure until after the season is done. This is the way Woody [Johnson] has always operated, and we’ll see what happens once the season is over.” LANDOVER, MD – JANUARY 07: Head coach Ron Rivera of the Washington Commanders looks on against the Dallas Cowboys during the second half of the game at FedExField on January 7, 2024 in Landover, Maryland. The Jets are also seeking a new general manager after firing Joe Douglas, along with former head coach Robert Saleh, earlier this season. In their pursuit of filling these positions this offseason, the Jets hired The 33rd Team, an NFL consulting agency, to help them streamline the process. The 33rd Team was founded and is lead by former Jets general manager Mike Tannenbaum Tannenbaum is familiar with the New York market and understands Johnson’s ownership style and priorities when searching for a new GM and coach. During his tenure as the Jets’ GM, Tannenbaum hired Eric Mangini and Rex Ryan as head coaches. Since these events have happened, the Jets have nosedived to a 4-12 record. Their most recent effort in losing 40-14, a contest in which they were down 40-0 before a pair of garbage-time touchdowns, exemplified just how low the organization has stooped. “If you ask me, that means it’s like the end of the season. Obviously, we’re not going to the playoffs, some people might be checked out,” Gardner said in regards to the loss. “That’s just me going off speculation.
