New year, new streaming options as Max reveals what is coming to the platform throughout January, including over 100 new films that were added on New Year’s Day.
Highlights from the January 1 offerings include the film that landed Jennifer Lawrence her Oscar, Silver Linings Playbook, some horror hits such as The Conjuring 2, Annabelle Comes Home, and Stephen King’s IT, as well as family favorites, Mrs. Doubtfire, Paddington, Matilda and Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory.

A hidden gem among the new additions is a documentary called School Life from filmmakers Neasa Ní Chianáin and David Rane about two teachers nearing retirement at an Irish boarding school.

First premiering in 2016, the film did the festival rounds, starting at the prestigious International Documentary Festival Amsterdam and heading on to the Sundance Film Festival. It holds a 94% Certified Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes and was described as “immersive, intimate, and charming” by Charlotte Harrison at VultureHound.
