Jennifer Lee is the proud owner of rescue dog Maggie, a Staffordshire terrier and pit bull mix who has developed a strong bond with Lee’s mother, Gigi—after the dog “worked hard to win her over.” “My mom has always been a bit afraid of dogs but particularly of bully breeds,” Lee told Newsweek, saying the breed has an unfair reputation, and at first her mother didn’t want Lee to adopt Maggie at all. “My mom was so scared she would lock herself in the bedroom and would only let Maggie be in the house while on leash attached to me,” she said. “But over time she started seeing how sweet Maggie is.” Gigi so began to trust Maggie that, after experiencing a break-in in 2022, she asked her daughter and her dog to come and live with her—in part, “because she thought Maggie would make her feel safe again. “That’s when they got really close.” An example of their bond has now been shown off in a viral TikTok video on Lee’s TikTok account, @maggiepotamus_.
