The Kansas City Chiefs’ mix-and-match operation at the cornerback position might be over just in time.
After seeking a fit to play alongside cornerback Trent McDuffie, the Chiefs have designated Jaylen Watson to return from injury reserve per Fox Sports NFL insider Jordan Schultz.
“Breaking: The #Chiefsare designating CB Jaylen Watson to return from IR, and he will practice today, sources tell @NFLonFOX,” said Schultz on X. “This is a huge boost for Kansas City, who has been without Watson since late October due to a broken fibula. He and Trent McDuffie are one of the best CB duos in the league and KC could now have him back just in time for the postseason.
Watson returns to practice more than two months removed from suffering a broken fibula in Week 7 against the San Fransisco 49ers.

It looks as though Kansas City could have their starting cornerback pairing back in tact for the playoffs despite head coach Andy Reid mentioning earlier this week that Watson “potentially” could have his 21-day practice observation window activated.
He said that such a move would be “stretching it” in terms of expectations.
