Hideo Kojima Provides Update on Physint, OD and Death Stranding Movie

Metal Gear Solid and Death Stranding creator Hideo Kojima has provided an update on his next projects. While the developer will release Death Stranding 2 later this year on PlayStation 5, he’s also working on two more games utilizing new IP. First announced at a State of Play presentation last year, Kojima announced that his studio will start working on a new action espionage game, codenamed Physint, following Death Stranding 2’s release. As per Kojima, the game will “transcend the barriers between film and video games.” There’s just one problem: the recent SAG-AFTRA strike in Hollywood meant Kojima Productions had to suspend the casting process for the title. Photo by Jun Sato/WireImage The actors’ strike also posed the same problem for OD, Kojima’s second game in development, powered by cloud computing technology from Microsoft’s Xbox division. In a social media post thanking his fans and reflecting on Kojima Productions’ achievements in 2024, the prolific game creator provided an update on the progress of Physint and OD. “For OD, we developed the game and had actor and environment scanning,” said Kojima. “In the second half of the year, scanning and filming were suspended due to the SAG strike. Casting was also suspended for Physint due to the strike. We hope to resume next year.” In the same post, Kojima also stated that “preparations and planning for the live-action DS film with A24 as well as other adaptations are underway.” Announced in late 2023, the Death Stranding live-action feature film is in development at A24 Films, the production company behind last year’s hits like The Brutalist, Babygirl, Y2K, and Heretic. Hideo Kojima is also heavily involved in the film’s development. Death Stranding 2 will be released for the PlayStation 5 sometime in 2025.
