Hilaria Baldwin’s accent is being called into question, once again.
In a video shared to Instagram on Monday, December 30, Hilaria, 40 — who is the wife of actor Alec Baldwin — was making a traditional Spanish tortilla dish. As she is cooking with a friend, she seems to forget the English word for “onions.”
“‘My husband hates…cebollas,” Hilaria said in the clip per the Daily Mail. The moment promped confusion from fans, especially due to the fact that her supposed Spanish roots have frequently been debated.

“For context, her English is her first and native language,” wrote one person on X (formerly Twitter). “She has been pretending to be Spanish for years now. Gotta love the dedication to the bit.”

“She’s from Boston, cosplaying as someone from Spain and no one calls her out on it,” said another.
Another X user called Hilaria “A character actor!” for keeping up her alleged ruse for so long.
Back in December 2020, Boston.com reported that Hilaria’s real name was Hillary Hayward-Thomas. People who claimed to have gone to high school with Hilaria also said she didn’t have an accent growing up.
Hilaria has often defended her connection to Spanish culture, noting that while she was born and raised in Boston, she and her family would travel to Spain annually. However, some outlets recirculated interviews in which Alec and Hilaria have claimed that she was from Spain.
She defended herself in a December 2020 interview with New York Times, saying “Where is the smoking gun? My intentions are I’m living my life and my life is created by my parents, my different experiences, my languages, my culture.”
This also isn’t the first time Hilaria has supposedly forgotten how to say a word in English. Back in 2015, during an appearance on the Today show, Hilaria apparently forgot the English word for “cucumber.”
Daily Mail also shared a video featuring the December 30 clip, as well as clips from past videos and interviews, in which her accent is noticeably different.
