With a fresh new slate of movies preparing for release throughout 2025, we are looking ahead at what’s heading to the box office over the next 365 days, highlighting some of the most exciting upcoming releases we feel you should keep an eye out for.
New titles are coming from some of our most exciting working filmmakers throughout 2025, including Bong Joon Ho, Benny and Josh Safdie, Noah Baumbach, Guillermo del Toro, and Ryan Coogler, as well as some thrilling work from new and emerging filmmakers.
So, while there’s a plethora of titles to choose from, we’ve scouted out 16 and detailed what to expect from each, and when they’ll be released.
Presence
Release date: January 24, 2025

Presence has had a long journey to theatrical release, starting in January 2024 when it premiered at the Sundance Film Festival before journeying to Toronto International Film Festival in the fall, as well as a few other festival appearances.
Currently sitting at 89% on Rotten Tomatoes, Presence is a great film for horror fans to kickstart their year as it is from the point of view of a presence in a suburban home where a new family has just moved in.
The Monkey
Release Date: February 21, 2025

Fans of Longlegs rejoice because Osgood Perkins has another offering for you, this time in the form of an adaptation of the 1980 short story from Stephen King about twin brothers who discover their father’s old toy monkey toy in the attic.
Theo James and Elijah Wood star, alongside Perkins himself and Tatiana Maslany, Laura Mennell, and Sarah Levy.
Last Breath
Release Date: February 28, 2025

The fictional adaptation of Alex Parkinson’s 2019 documentary, Last Breath, is coming to Netflix next month, led by Woody Harrelson, alongside Simu Liu, Cliff Curtis, Finn Cole, Christian Scicluna, Daithí O’Donnell, Riz Khan, Connor Reed, and Nick Biadon.
Last Breath tells the true story of seasoned deep-sea divers on a mission to rescue a member of their crew who is trapped hundreds of feet below the ocean’s surface.
Mickey 17
Release Date: March 7, 2025

Bong Joon Ho’s first film since winning Best Picture with Parasite in 2020 is finally making its big screen debut after multiple delays.
Following Robert Pattinson in the titular role, the film is inspired by Edward Ashton’s 2022 novel, “Mickey7“, and sees Pattinson make the treacherous journey to colonize an ice planet where he runs into multiple fatalities.
Sinners
Release date: April 18, 2025

Ryan Coogler and Michael B Jordan are back together for this epic big-screen outing about twin brothers (both played by Jordan) who return to their hometown for a fresh start. However, they quickly discover a not-so-warm welcome.
Elio
Release Date: June 13, 2025

Another victim of delays is the new original Pixar film, Elio, which will hit theaters in the summer and sees the titular character in what Pixar describes as “a cosmic misadventure”.
The coming-of-age tale sees Elio befriending new life forms, navigating an intergalactic-size crisis, and learning who he truly is in what we expect to be another heartwarming tale from the studio behind Toy Story and Inside Out.
28 Years Later
Release Date: June 20, 2025

Danny Boyle returns to the universe he built in 2002 with 28 Days Later, which documents the aftermath of a mysterious, incurable virus which has spread throughout the United Kingdom.
28 Years Later is set to hit theaters in the summer, and the first trailer for the haunting sequel landed last month, whetting the appetite of fans of the franchise.
Michael
Release Date: October 3, 2025
The director behind Training Day and The Equalizer is taking on the story of the King of Pop in the new film, Michael, which tells the story of world-famous superstar Michael Jackson.
Jackson’s very own nephew, Jaafar Jackson, will star as the legend, with a stellar ensemble cast including Colman Domingo, Miles Teller, Laura Harrier, Kat Graham, Nia Long, Kendrick Sampson, Larenz Tate, Derek Luke, and Jessica Sula.
The Running Man
Release Date: November 7, 2025
Edgar Wright’s next flick is also a Stephen King adaptation of the 1982 novel “The Running Man“, which takes place in 2025, where the world’s economy is in disarray and the United States has become a dystopia.
The novel was first brought to the big screen in 1987 and starred Arnold Schwarzenegger, Maria Conchita Alonso, Yaphet Kotto, Jim Brown, and Jesse Ventura.
Wright’s reimagining stars Glen Powell, Josh Brolin, Lee Pace, Katy O’Brian, David Zayas, Michael Cera, William H. Macy, and Emilia Jones.
Wicked: For Good
Release Date: November 21, 2025
The highly anticipated follow-up to 2024’s box office hit Wicked is coming in 2025, and it is one to keep your eyes on as it will tell the rest of the story of Elphaba and Glinda, who we left on a thrilling cliffhanger.
Marty Supreme
Release Date: December 25, 2025
Timothée Chalamet ping-ponged from one biopic to the next, having portrayed Bob Dylan in A Complete Unknown and is now tackling the story of table tennis pro Marty Reisman, whose story forms the loose basis of Josh Safdie’s latest film, Marty Supreme.
Another holiday outing for Chalamet, Marty Supreme is currently set to drop into theaters on Christmas Day.
Frankenstein
Release Date: TBC
Guillermo del Toro’s got another treat up his sleeve, with an adaptation of Mary Shelley’s classic novel starring Jacob Elordi as “The Monster” and Oscar Isaac as Dr. Victor Frankenstein in his reimagining of the gothic tale.
The star power doesn’t begin and end with Elordi and Issac, however, as Ralph Ineson, Mia Goth, Christoph Waltz, Charles Dance, Burn Gorman, David Bradley, and Lars Mikkelsen join them.
Wake Up Dead Man
Release Date: TBC
Rian Johnson’s back in his Knives Out bag as he brings his third whodunnit to the screen, with Daniel Craig, joined this time by Kerry Washington, Cailee Spaeny, Josh O’Connor, Josh Brolin, Mila Kunis, Jeremy Renner, Andrew Scott, Daryl McCormack, Glenn Close, Thomas Haden Church, Annie Hamilton, Kerry Frances, and Marcus Edward Bond.
The Smashing Machine
Release Date: TBC
Like his brother Josh, Benny Safdie also has a film based on a true story releasing in 2025.
The Smashing Machine, starring Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt, tells the tale of mixed-martial arts and UFC champion Mark Kerr.
Jay Kelly
Release Date: TBC
Not yet confirmed to be released in 2025, but heavily expected to be, is the new film from four-time Oscar-nominee Noah Baumbach.
Jay Kelly‘s only details are that it is a “funny and emotional coming-of-age story about adults” with a powerhouse cast list which includes Adam Sandler, George Clooney, Eve Hewson, Isla Fisher, Emily Mortimer, Laura Dern, Riley Keough, Jim Broadbent, Greta Gerwig, Patrick Wilson, Thaddea Graham, Billy Crudup, Alba Rohrwacher, Louis Partridge, Stacy Keach, and Jamie Demetriou.
All of You

After a successful festival run, the decade-long passion project of William Bridges and Brett Goldstein, All of You, has been acquired by Apple Original Films and is set for release sometime in 2025.
Starring Brett Goldstein and Imogen Poots, the film tells the turbulent tale of two best friends who grapple with their complex feelings for each other.
All of You premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in September 2024 before making its UK debut at the BFI London Flm Festival. Now, it’ll meet a wider audience this year.
